It’s Mary Time

by Suzanne on April 9, 2010

My brain is mush. I am totally in a fog today. I should have a big fog horn just to warn people of impending doom coming at them. I didn’t even drive today because I felt like if I did I’d end up taking a breathalyzer test and have to explain why I passed.

It's a little foggy . . .

Actually, this scene is a little too “serene” for my fog today.

I have forgotten things; gone into rooms (read “more than one and more than one time”) for things removed from my visions forever as soon as I walked through the threshold; said things I have no idea I’ve said; couldn’t find my way out of a paper bag. Even the voices have quit talking.

I need a friend. Suzi’s Friend Mary will do just fine. Most of the time, like 99%, they have no hooch in them. It’s a way to get my veggies for the day. She understands me.

I’m thinkin’ a little hooch is in order tonight.

I’m thinkin’ this:

It's 5 o'clock somewhere

Suzi’s Friend Mary
4 oz. Low Sodium Tomato Juice
2 oz. Mr. & Mrs. T’s Bloody Mary Mix (regular, not Bold and Spicy)
1 tsp. Tabasco Sauce
1/2 tsp. Suzi’s Friend Mary Spice Mix
1 medium lime
1 oz. Vodka (if you want some hooch)

Rim glass with salt, if you prefer. I’m salty enough, so I do without. Fill glass with ice and mix all ingredients together in glass. Adjust the heat with the Tabasco, as tolerated. Stir thoroughly and garnish with celery rib, an olive and pickled cocktail onion. When we were in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania last year we ate at Primanti Brothers. They served a Pickled Mary. I ordered. They served. The garnish was a dill pickle spear. I can roll that way, too.

Suzi’s Bloody Mary Spice Mix

1 Tbsp Red Chile Powder
1 tsp. Black Pepper
1/2 tsp. Cayenne Chile Powder
1/4 tsp. Ancho Chile Powder
1/4 tsp. Garlic Powder
1/4 tsp. Onion Powder
1/4 tsp. Celery Seed
1/4 tsp. White Pepper
This concoction will yield enough for a lot of Suzi’s Friend Marys.

Say that five times really fast.

Mary’s Friend,
Suz

Yo, Suz, I’m over here! This looks seriously good, and I will keep it in mind for the next time I feel the fog rolling in.

I loved your post! I hope the drink helped and I hope the voices are back now, talking away at you! ;)

This would make a great gift too. A little spice mix with a bottle of hootch, oh yea!!!

Ooooo, gift spice. Great idea! And Megan, I see you. . .

Fog is lifting, I think. Haven’t ventured too far yet this morning, though. We’ll see where the day takes me.

I love an occasional bloody mary. Not enough to make a bunch of spice for them, but since it’s been a long while since I’ve had one (hooch-filled or otherwise) this does sound good! I second megan’s comment – great gift idea!

What fog, where, it’s raining, snowing, and now sunny all in just a few hours, here today at Copper Mounain? No fog, oh, that was this am. Really.
Oh well, back to Mary, my friend too!
Suzy, some nice spice ideas, the chiles, I haven’t tried in my custom Mary’s. BTW, there is a really, really, top BM mix called Freshies, at http://www.freshies.com/. I’ve have nothing to do with company, but I would recommend it as the best of all on market, without hesitation, period. Pricey but convenient for top quality and speed, and worth every penny. I don’t know distribution, but you can check if you’re interested. Currently out of a job, looking, and making my own, better friend, Mary. Hmmm, still doesn’t sound quite right, since I’m only talking about drinks. I’m spirits-ually a bit fickle, ’cause there are so many to try and so little time! Actually, she’s only my summertime (better) friend, gin and tonic is a good one too.

Hooch is such a funny word. I love your writing style too. GREG
